Postcard from the future

What if your future-self dropped you a line?

A clever idea from The Wildlife Trust recently caught our attention. They’re inviting people to write a postcard to their future self about why nature matters, before sending the real thing through the post a few days later.

It’s simple, personal, and hard to ignore when it lands on the doormat.

It got us thinking about pensions. Because two of the biggest challenges we have are:

  • Making a future that could be decades away feel relevant today

  • And reminding members with multiple pensions, particularly deferred members, of the benefits they have dotted around (hello pensions dashboards)

So, what if we flipped the idea?

A postcard from your future self, dropping in to remind you to check your pension, update your details or just have a think about what you want retirement to look like.

A message that says “Having a lovely time. Thanks for thinking ahead” to anchor the future in the now.

Sometimes the future can feel a long way off but perhaps we just need to bring it a little closer and make sure deferred doesn’t equal disconnected.
